What We Do

The Queer Yeshiva has created something never seen before in the UK: rigorous, immersive, radically inclusive multi-day learning through an explicitly Queer lens.

We believe the Talmud is a beautiful and subversive text at the heart of traditional Judaism. Created by radicals who wanted to reinvent their religion, it teaches people how to think outside of binaries and assumptions.

But for years, this sacred knowledge has been kept locked up by elite straight, cisgender men. We want to break it open.

A white Jewish person is sat at a chair studying, with a dictionary open. They are holding a pen. Behind them is two rainbow flags, one with the intersex, trans, and Black and brown colours and one with a Star of David on it.
Two people are sat around a table, studying. They have books, paper, pens, and a water bottle on the table. The person on the left is a Black Jewish person wearing a red t-shirt. The person on the left is a white Jew using a wheelchair.

We study using the SVARA method for teaching text: a pedagogical method with proven incredible results in making Talmud both accessible and rigorous for learners of all abilities.

Since launching in February 2022, we have run two sold-out weekly courses, two sold-out Summer Intensive for 160 participants and are currently running a teaching training programme, equipping the next generation of queer leaders in the Jewish community with Talmud and pedagogical skills.

Our community is multi-generational, cross-class, and come from across the UK and Europe. We are a queer-led and centred community, guided by our values.
