Accessibility
We aim to provide a space which meets as many different access needs as possible while being transparent about our own limits. Please be in contact with us at logistics@yeshiva.lgbt if you are concerned about our ability to meet any access needs you have. Below is the best information we currently have on our access provision at the Summer Intensive:
Step-free access
Whilst not all of the site has step-free access, all the key areas of the site are step-free.
The step-free areas are:
the dining hall
our beit knesset [prayer area]
most classrooms
one common room
some bedrooms
some toilets.
The areas which require steps to access are:
some classrooms
two common rooms
some bedrooms
some toilets.
There are unfortunately heavy fire doors leading to some rooms without automatic openings.
There are disabled toilets with grab rails around the site.
Accommodation options
We will try our best to accommodate everyone’s need for different room configurations, whilst working within the limitations of the site. The options we have for accommodation include:
Step-free bedroom with step-free ensuite wetroom-style bathroom with grab rails
Step-free bedroom with ensuite or communal bathrooms, with a step-into shower and no grab rails
Shared dormitory-style rooms with communal bathrooms
Solo rooms (limited numbers) with ensuite or shared bathrooms.
We will attempt for dormitory rooms to match people according to the environment you are looking for from a shared room.
Transport
The nearest train station to our intensive, Grange over Sands, has step free access to street from all platforms. A ramp needs to be booked from train to platform.
Carers
If you require a carer to attend the event, please email logistics@yeshiva.lgbt to discuss how we can accommodate this.
Sensory impairments
One of the big pieces of feedback we are taking on from last year’s intensive is to improve accessibility for people with sensory impairments. We are aiming to have a sound system and to bring in soft furnishings for larger rooms to improve sound quality.
Please email logistics@yeshiva.lgbt to discuss any other access needs you have in this area.
Learning
We will have frequent breaks. We also encourage you to take whatever breaks you need in your own time; all sessions are optional. There will be a dedicated quiet space at all times.
You can move however you need to in the space.
We are proud to be a mixed-level ability space. Most people join us having never studied Talmud before, and we will aim to learn at a pace which works for you.
Financial accessibility
We have significant numbers of our community attend on scholarship places and offer both full and partially funded places. Our aim is to provide as many scholarship places as funding allows. We do not ask for proof of income or financial position but ask you to be honest about what you are able to afford. If you would like to make a donation to our scholarship fund, please visit the support us page.
Food
All meals will be prepared on site and vegetarian. We will ensure vegan and gluten free options. Please let us know any dietary requirements as soon as possible when you sign up, and we will endeavour to accommodate them. Please also let us know any Kashrut requirements you have.
Drugs and alcohol
This will be a sober site. If you have any questions or need support, contact us at logistics@yeshiva.lgbt
